Bernd Stadlinger studied medicine and dentistry from 1996 to 2006 at the universities of Erlangen, Vienna, and Dresden. He completed his residency in oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University Hospital of Dresden and earned his habilitation in 2011 with a thesis titled "Functional Biomaterials for Influencing Maxillofacial Bone Healing."
In July 2011, he moved to the Clinic for Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery—the Clinic for Oral Surgery at the University of Zurich—as a senior physician. Following his habilitation transfer to the University of Zurich, he obtained the specialist dental title in Oral Surgery in 2013. Bernd Stadlinger has been a senior consultant since December 2015 and heads the Department of Dento-Maxillofacial Radiology. He is a board member of the Swiss Society for oral surgery and Stomatology (SSOS) and the Swiss Working Group for Jaw Surgery and Oral Medicine (SAKM).
The focus of his scientific work lies in the interaction between biomaterials and bone, in particular the coating of implants with various organic components to accelerate peri-implant bone healing. Furthermore, imaging techniques and the implementation of digital treatment methods are central to his interests. In the field of teaching, Bernd Stadlinger is the author of several computer-animated science films and is actively involved in integrating modern media into university education. For this work, he has received numerous science and teaching awards.
